Former Booz Allen Partner Files Gender Discrimination Suit after Being Fired

September 1st, 2011

September 1, 2011 – Molly Finn was once the highest ranking female employee at Booz Allen Hamilton, a strategy and technology consulting firm.  However, she is now suing the company and some of its top officials for gender discrimination, arguing that she was fired on the basis of gender and that the company intentionally excludes women from high-level leadership positions.  Booz Allen made a statement strenuously denying the accusations, claiming that it does not comment publicly on personal issues but vows to fight the suit.  According to Finn, however, the company is unwelcoming to women, even holding company golf trips to Scotland, excluding female employees.

Finn has worked for Booz Allen since 1986 when she was 22.  During that time, she has moved up the ranks steadily and eventually promoted to “level 3” lead partner in 2003.  In 2007, Finn was assessed for advancement to the next level but was not promoted.  She claims that her reviewers suggested she stop saying “pro-woman, feminist” things.  According to the lawsuit, company officials singled her out and opposed her promotion.  A year later, however, she was promoted to the fourth level.  Then in 2010, she was asked to leave the company.

Finn maintains that she was fired on the basis of gender and family obligations.  She is requesting that the court require Booz Allen to reinstate her as partner and award her back pay, benefits, bonuses, and other compensation as well as damages for the pain and emotional distress she suffered.

Booz Allen Hamilton declines comment, but does point out current and former female employees who claim to have had positive experiences with the company.  Included is one female senior partner at Booz & Co. in San Francisco.  She was chief personnel officer of Booz Allen’s leadership team and claims that she has four children and requested many office transfers due to her husband’s job, all of which were approved. An initial scheduling conference for the case is set for late October.
