New Jersey Employment Attorneys Discuss $20 Million Verdict in Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

A Largo-affiliated travel agency was recently ordered to pay more than $20 million to eight of its former employees after the company was found guilty of sexual harassment.  The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed the suit against Four Amigos Travel, Inc. and Top Dog Travel, Inc. on behalf of the employees in the U.S. district court of Tampa.  The case went before a federal jury, who unanimously agreed to award damages to the employees.

The suit accused travel agency owner and other male managers of creating a hostile work environment in which female employees were constantly subjected to sexual harassment. The employees were the victims of unwelcome advances and blatant propositions, as well as actual unwanted physical contact. The office environment was filled with lewd jokes and gestures, and male managers displayed a clear lack of respect for the women in the office.

One manager in the office did try to address the employees’ complaints, but he was fired for doing so, the suit alleged.  He and the sexual harassment victims were awarded a total of over $20 million in compensatory damages, punitive damages, and back pay.  The company elected not to contest the charges with any evidence, so the trial was limited to damages.
