Philadelphia Discrimination Lawyers Represent Student in Sex Discrimination Lawsuit against Temple University

Temple University is the latest educational institution to come under fire for its alleged discriminatory sexual misconduct policy. According to the allegations in a new federal lawsuit filed by a former male Temple University student, the university unlawfully discriminated against him based on his sex during disciplinary proceedings.

The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff was unfairly expelled from the school after being accused of the sexual assault of a fellow female student.  The plaintiff states that he engaged in consensual sexual acts (not including intercourse) with a female student in September 2012. The female student accused him of sexual assault and reported her accusations to the university who initiated disciplinary proceedings against the male student.

The complaint further alleges that the male student was not allowed to have a lawyer at his expulsion hearing which was held before five faculty members.  He also was denied the opportunity to cross examine his accuser. In light of potential criminal charges, the plaintiff declined to testify at that hearing.  Temple University found him guilty of sexual misconduct and expelled him from the school.
