Philadelphia Employment Lawyers Represent Former College Dean in Age Discrimination Case

Philadelphia employment law firm of Sidney L. Gold & Associates, P.C. will represent the former dean of Luzerne County Community College who claims she was wrongfully terminated due to age discrimination.

Employed at the college for 31 years, the plaintiff had been promoted seven times before taking on the role of dean at the newly formed Public Safety and Training Institute in 2007.  She remained dean of the school until her dismissal on August 29, 2012.

According to the lawsuit, the school held the plaintiff to a different standard of conduct than other employees with regard to acceptable behavior and conduct in the workplace. Additionally, the lawsuit makes several other claims against the school, including:

  • The school paid her significantly less than four male deans, even though she had more work responsibilities.
  • The female dean asserts that she was berated during management meetings by the vice president of training institutes and the dean of human resources. The two male employees were never disciplined.
  • The plaintiff claims she was falsely accused by a secretary for the school of creating a hostile work environment. Following these allegations, the secretary was moved to a different department and the plaintiff says she was issued a final warning by the school. The lawsuit states that she was fired six months later.

The plaintiff asserts that in the 31 years she worked at the college, she maintained satisfactory job performances and was recommended by her peers for her leadership skills.

This suit is the most recent of a dozen similar civil lawsuits brought against Luzerne County Community College in the past 12 years. Allegations brought against the college by former and current employees run the gamut of retaliation in the workplace and employment discrimination claims, including claims of age discrimination, gender discrimination, and retaliation for whistleblowing.
