A former Fox News commentator filed a lawsuit on Monday in New York against the Fox network. Scottie Nell Hughes, who appeared on Fox News and Fox Business from 2013 to 2016, claims that the host and anchor at Fox Business, Charles Payne, sexually assaulted her in 2013 despite her vehement protestations, and then proceeded to pressure her into having a physical relationship for the next two years. Due to her shame, she did not report the relationship until ending it, which led to the network blacklisting her. The suit alleges gender-motivated violence, gender discrimination, retaliation, and defamation, and names 21st Century Fox, Fox News, and the host, Charles Payne, of the Fox Business show, Making Money, as defendants.
Unfortunately, the Fox News network is no stranger to sexual harassment claims as evidenced in the news this past year. Although sexual harassment may take on a physical component like in the allegations made by the former Fox News commentator, verbal sexual comments also constitute harassment, and may create a hostile and uncomfortable workplace for all employees, not just the victims.
