During his Media Buzz show on Sunday morning, Fox News reporter, Howard Kurtz, stated that the Bill O’Reilly settlement is a “significant setback” for the company. In February, O’Reilly was offered a renewal of his contract with Fox News for four years at about $25 million per year. The $32 million sexual harassment settlement, which arose after allegations were made by a longtime Fox contributor, and the contract renewal was issued, was questioned by Kurtz. He stated that if the sexual harassment allegations are indeed false, why was a $32 million settlement needed? He feels this action intervenes with the progress that the parent company, 21st Century Fox, is making in moving past the toxic work environment it once had by employing more female executives and hosts.
Unfortunately, sexual harassment pervades many workplaces, and causes morale to drop among employees as well as adversely affecting the recipients of the toxic behavior. The job performance of the victim may suffer, and the victim may experience emotional and mental trauma because of the harassment.
