Women have experienced sexual harassment at work for decades, yet it has always been underreported. Women may feel ashamed of revealing the situations they endured, worry about losing respect, and fear termination in their industry. With the wide array of new allegations, women are beginning to recognize that they must speak up to make a change. The Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EOEC) receives approximately 15,000 sexual harassment cases every year. Most of these charges are filed by women, but in recent years, complaints from men have more than tripled.

The results of a recent telephone poll regarding sexual harassment are:

  • 62% of sexual harassment targets did not act
  • 31% of female workers claim to have been harassed at work
  • 100% of women claim the harasser was a man
  • 7% of men claim to have been harassed at work
  • 59% of men claim the harasser was a woman
  • 41% of men claim the harasser was another man
