After a flood of sexual harassment allegations, Federal Judge Alex Kozinski, who held an esteemed position as a chief judge across the entire West Coast in California, retired. Several women, some of which were present and former colleagues, and others whom he met at events, accused him of unwanted sexual remarks as well as inappropriate physical contact. The allegations by about 15 women took place over a number of years. In 2008, he faced similar accusations of ill behavior after it was revealed that he was contributing content to a website containing salacious material. On Thursday, a news report with claims from about six women prompted the investigation, and nearly 10 more surfaced the next day.
Disturbing allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace have brought major attention to many public figures, and given a voice to those who have experienced the toxic behavior. Verbal comments and physical action of a sexual nature are two forms of sexual harassment, and can afflict either gender. Even individuals who are not directly tormented by the perpetrator may be offended by the behavior, and choose to report it.
