In recent years, many instances of workplace harassment have come to light. Many of the claims were by women against men. However, a recent lawsuit filed in federal court shows that men are sometimes harassed and treated inappropriately by women in the workplace, though that scenario is rare. The plaintiff, a middle-aged man who had been employed as a labor analyst by Disney Cruise Line, claims he was bullied, harassed, and passed over for promotions by a younger female manager, even though he was qualified.
According to the lawsuit, the former employee claims he was discriminated against because of his sex and age. He also endured a hostile work environment created by the manager, enduring intolerable conditions. In addition to the above, these included bragging by the manager about sleeping with married men in the office, being called demeaning names in front of staff, and being moved to a windowless office.
Disney Cruise Line released a statement saying that the claims were without merit. The plaintiff had worked for the company for 18 years until being fired last year. According to the lawsuit, all the top executives and senior managers in the plaintiff’s division were female, which did not reflect the gender makeup of the workforce there. The former employee claimed the harassment had gone on for approximately two years.
