Former Assistant Accuses Robert DeNiro of Harassment, Discrimination

October 3rd, 2019

Former Assistant Accuses Robert DeNiro of Harassment, DiscriminationA former assistant accused actor Robert DeNiro of sexual harassment and gender discrimination in a recently filed suit. In 2008, DeNiro hired the woman to act as his assistant. She claims that he subjected her to lewd comments, verbal abuse, physical misconduct, gender-based harassment, and assigned her stereotypically female tasks. Initially, Robert DeNiro filed a suit against the former assistant in August, alleging that she misused the company credit card and spent a four-day stretch watching television during work hours. She further alleges that the suit filed by DeNiro is a form of workplace retaliation.

Gender discrimination may mean that an employer treats a worker differently due to the gender of the employee. Employees facing this type of discrimination may be passed over for promotions despite possessing more experience or seniority than a co-worker or receive less pay for a position of equal status. Sexual harassment falls under the same umbrella of discrimination and may be comprised of verbal abuse or physical misconduct.
