Women’s National Team Wins Historic Deal for Equal Pay with US Soccer

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF), United States Women’s National Team Players Association   (USWNTPA), and the United States National Soccer Team Association (USNSTA) have reached a deal to ins equal pay between the men and women. Under the agreement, U.S. Soccer will become the first Federation in the world to equalize FIFA World Cup prize money awarded for both teams participating in World Cups. Also, US Soccer will share a portion of its partner, broadcast, and revenue, with an equal split of that share divided between USWNT and USMNT.

Under the terms of the agreement, the men’s and women’s teams will share any money U.S. Soccer makes commercially and at events. According to the agreement, any World Cup Prize money will be pooled between the men’s and women’s teams and divided equally among all players. There are identical financial terms, game payments, and revenue sharing for the teams. It is a first in the soccer federation world, according to USSF.

Referring to this as a historic moment, the US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone expressed that U.S. Soccer, the National Soccer Teams, and the players have changed the game of soccer forever. Parlow Cone pointed out that the men’s players and Men’s Players Association was collaborative in the effort. It was noted that the agreements are moving soccer towards becoming the pre-eminent sport in the United States. The USSF, USWNTPA, USNSTPA agree that the deal achieves both equal pay and serves as a foundation for continued growth for women’s soccer in both the United States and abroad.

The agreements not only achieve equal pay for the women’s team, they also cover previously-disparate areas of inequality such as areas such as child care, parental leave, short term disability, mental health, and equal quality of travel, training and field surfaces for National Team players.
