$50 M Settlement in Nationwide Class Action Discrimination Suit against Abercrombie & Fitch

Philadelphia employment lawyer, Sidney L. Gold, served as one of the lead attorneys in a nationwide class action lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch that accused the company of maintaining a “virtually all-white” and predominantly male sales force in it’s 600+ stores. The company agreed to pay nearly $50 Million and instituted sweeping changes in its hiring practices as a result of the efforts of Sidney L. Gold & Associates.

$38 M Settlement in Purolite Case -December, 2010

Philadelphia employment lawyer, Sidney L. Gold, represented the plaintiff in a complex intellectual property lawsuit that involved former employees and the alleged theft of trade secrets. The case was hard-fought for 5 years before Judge Cynthia Rufe in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The litigation included several novel legal questions and resulted in several published opinions on key issues. It settled for $38 million and an agreement between the parties to jointly own the technology and information at the center of the dispute.

$9.5 M Class-Action Settlement for Retirement Benefits – October, 2014

Philadelphia employment lawyer, Sidney L. Gold, recently obtained a $9.5 million settlement in a ten-year old class action lawsuit.  One-hundred former employees of Owens-Illinois brought the claim against their former employer.  The former workers were long-term employees with the company when the company sold, preventing them from collecting their entitled retirement benefits.

Mr. Gold, of Philadelphia’s employment law firm Sidney L. Gold & Associates, P.C., was co-counsel for the group of employees, along with the Console Law Offices LLC.  The settlement approved by a U.S. district court judge allows each former employee to receive the original retirement benefit they were eligible for, in addition to a lump sum settlement amount.

The substantial settlement is a significant accomplishment for Mr. Gold who tenaciously pursued the claim for the workers over a decade long period.

$1.65 million Settlement for False Claims Act lawsuit

Tree of Life Behavioral Services Inc. and related entities agree to pay $1.65 million to settle a False Claims Act lawsuit claiming it fraudulently billed Medicaid for services patients never received and wrongfully paid for client referrals. The settlement calls for Tree of Life to pay the government $1.65 million, of which $330,000 will go to Erika Desjardins, a former Tree of Life employee who launched the suit in 2014 and is represented by Sidney L. Gold.

$662,000 Settlement for Qui Tam Case – December, 2014

Philadelphia employment lawyers at Sidney L. Gold & Associates obtained a $650,000 settlement in a Qui Tam Whistleblower case against Easton Hospital.  The allegations set forth by former employees in the claim were that Easton Hospital committed health care fraud arising under the False Claims Act.

$550,00 Settlement for Qui Tam Case – March, 2018

Sidney L. Gold & Associates, P.C. secured a $550,000 settlement in a False Claims Act lawsuit against the intra-operative medical monitoring company, Marshfield Medical, Inc., formerly known as Bromedicon, Inc. Our whistleblower lawyers filed the Qui Tam case under seal in the US District Court for the Eastern District of PA. The US Dept of Justice undertook an investigation of the claims. On Monday, March 12, 2018, the US Attorney March announced that as a result of the investigation it was concluded that the claims had merit and the company agreed to settle for $550,000.

$462,000  Awarded in an Unanimous Jury Verdict for Sexual Harassment Case

Philadelphia employment lawyers at Sidney L. Gold & Associates William Rieser and Jamie L. Ford won a unanimous jury verdict in federal court on behalf of Brittany Ivins in a sexual harassment case against her former employer, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (“DOC”). The jury unanimously found that the DOC had subjected Ms. Ivins to a hostile work environment on the basis of her sex. The jury awarded Ms. Ivins an amount totaling more than $462,600, including compensatory damages and attorneys’ fees.

$250,000 Verdict for Pregnancy Discrimination Case

Philadelphia employment lawyers at Sidney L. Gold & Associates William Rieser and Jamie L. Ford won a unanimous jury verdict in federal court on behalf of Jana Ratzenbek in a pregnancy discrimination case against Okna Windows Corporation. Ms. Ratzenbek was awarded more than $251,000 in punitive damages, back pay, attorneys’ fees, and other damages.

$150,000 Settlement for Race Discrimination Case

Philadelphia employment lawyer, Sidney L. Gold,  represented the plaintiffs to settle race discrimination claims against Bangor Area School District. The suit was filed in September 2014 by three current and former students in federal court alleging the district discriminated against them because they were black.  The Bangor Area School District agreed to a settlement of $150,000 to resolve the case. The majority of the award will be distributed to the three students and their families, with the remaining amount to cover attorneys’ fees.
