Ending what has proven to be a highly-publicized scandal, the 21st Century Fox Corporation has decided earlier today to settle the sexual harassment case filed by former anchor, Gretchen Carlson. While the overall amount has not been disclosed, an individual briefed on the settlement reported it to be around $20 million—with significant portions coming from the abuser, Roger Ailes.
The suit, filed this past July, came to an expedient end after more women followed in the steps of Ms. Carlson, bringing Ailes’ abuse to light. It is reported that over 20 women spoke to lawyers about Mr. Ailes’ inappropriate behavior and retaliatory practices. Ms. Carlson thanked those who came forward and those who showed support with the #StandWithGretchen hashtag on social media.
This case is no doubt a step in the right direction for women in the workplace, but there is still much to be done.
