In an earlier blog, we wrote about the new overtime rule set forth by the Department of Labor (DOL) which was to take effect December 1. On Tuesday, a judge in Texas made a ruling that places the DOL’s new rule on hold. The preliminary injunction was granted by U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant in the Eastern District of Texas and impacts employees nationwide.
This ruling questions the DOL’s new guidelines regarding the salary threshold and exemptions from overtime for certain executive, administrative and professional employees. Putting the rule on hold is not good news for many American workers. The new overtime rule ensured that employees would be paid fairly for extra hours they work. We will continue to monitor this pending legislation and provide updates as available.
