An estimated 50 national field organizers have filed a class action lawsuit claiming that the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, and others did not pay overtime wages during the party’s 2016 national convention. This is especially significant because the DNC officially called for a $15 an hour national minimum wage during the convention, which is more than double the current federal level of $7.25 an hour.
During the convention, it was stated that “the Democratic Party believes that supporting workers through higher wages, workplace protections, policies to balance work and family, and other investments.” Even so, that statement apparently did not apply to organizers, some of whom worked exceedingly long hours.
