The transgender community has long dealt with discrimination and hurtful behavior; but when it happens at work, there is something that can be done about it. A recent complaint against McDonald’s has put this issue in the spotlight once again. A former employee of the fast food giant claims she was a victim of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation because of her status as a transgendered worker.
The McDonald’s employee was fired after complaining that she was sexually harassed and discriminated against because of her lifestyle. Her lawsuit against the burger giant and the franchise owner alleges that the victim was subjected to name-calling, was forced to use an abandoned bathroom once used as a storage closet, and was groped while on the job. After the worker complained about the abuse to a manager, her hours were slashed, and she was eventually fired. She is seeking damages for lost wages, emotional pain, and loss of self-esteem.
