Attorney General Jeff Sessions reversed the policy that protects transgender workers from discrimination. He states that the policy covers men and women but not transgendered individuals. Under the Obama administration, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 banned transgender discrimination in the workplace. Additionally, the policy reversal from Sessions contends that any pending and future matters regarding this type of employee discrimination could lead to the Justice Department fighting against transgender workers in court, instead of fighting for them.
A safe workplace free from discrimination and harassment by employers and co-workers is the right of workers across the United States. Until the reversal of the policy that protects transgender workers from discrimination, which was instigated by a specific interpretation of the law, transgendered employees were afforded the same rights.
