On a Thursday morning Today show appearance, a woman accused US Representative John Conyers of physically violating her. Although the former employee received a settlement, she broke the confidentiality agreement to take a stand against sexual harassment, so that other women like her granddaughter may not have to face obstacles like these in the workplace. She alleged that Conyers propositioned her and made inappropriate physical contact with her while she worked for him. In addition to her claims, other female staffers accused him of similar sexual misconduct and lewd remarks. The Michigan Representative denies the claims despite the former settlement that was made.
Since the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment and misconduct allegations surfaced, victims have been vocal about the mistreatment they received at their jobs due to prominent perpetrators who engaged in the same toxic behavior as Weinstein. With the flood of accusations still emerging, sexual harassment in the workplace is quickly becoming an epidemic. Sexual harassment or misconduct can create a hostile work environment, and no industry is immune to its occurrence.
