An employee at the “Megyn Kelly Today” show was fired after he reported about the toxic work environment the staff allegedly endured at the show. The writer on the show submitted an email to NBC’s human resources department, citing bullying and other abusive tactics used by two top executives to intimidate their subordinates. Since the allegations and subsequent firing of former Today Show host Matt Lauer arose, NBC ordered employees to report any examples of toxic behavior in the workplace without any supposed repercussions. After the writer submitted the email on Tuesday, he was fired from his job. Sources claim that Megyn Kelly was not involved in the alleged harassment or decision to fire the employee.
Employers in some states including New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania are legally allowed to fire an employee “at-will”, which means the employer may terminate the worker’s employment for virtually any reason. If a contract, however, stipulates that the worker will be employed by the company for a specific period of time, a manager cannot willfully terminate the employment.
