A popular Philadelphia chef received a suspension at the restaurant where he is a co-partner after numerous sexual harassment allegations arose against him. Chris Painter, the chef at Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, as well as the General Manager and two other employees received suspensions for accusations of inappropriate sexual discussions and general misconduct as reported by multiple employees. Due to an incident last summer, the Philadelphia chef’s schedule was already reduced to weekend-only shifts, so that his schedule would not overlap with an employee who accused him of harassment.
According to recent studies, employees in the restaurant industry file more harassment claims than any other. Although the highly publicized case against Harvey Weinstein in Hollywood captured the attention of millions and pointed to the pervasive culture of sexual harassment and misconduct contained in the entertainment industry, restaurants are notorious for this type of toxic behavior. Apparently, 90 percent of female workers and 70 percent of male employees in the restaurant industry experience high amounts of harassment while at work.
