A new survey finds that a third of female lawyers experience sexual harassment in their workplaces. The survey, conducted by the International Bar Association, revealed that one-third of female lawyers from nearly 7,000 polled across the globe have been sexually harassed, and half have been bullied. As for male lawyers, it was discovered that one in three male lawyers experienced bullying on the job and one in 14 dealt with sexual harassment. The report noted that the epidemic may stem from the fact that the legal industry tends to be male-dominated and features a hierarchical power structure. Unfortunately, many instances of sexual harassment and bullying among law firms go unreported.
Sexual harassment affects workers in a variety of industries including the field of law. Although it has been a problem in workplaces for many years, a wave of allegations pitted against movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein, flooded the entertainment industry. This led to the start of a movement created to eliminate this type of toxic behavior from all workplaces and industries.
