Self-help guru and public speaker Tony Robbins was accused of sexual harassment and retaliation by former staffers. The allegations, which took place in the 1990s and early 2000s, arose from leaked records and a year-long investigation. Robbins allegedly made inappropriate sexual advances toward female staffers, among others, and requested they take notes at inappropriate times and places. Some employees claim that he pursued them even after they rejected his romantic advances, and one worker who did engage in a consensual sexual relationship with him was fired after it ended. Robbins’ team of lawyers denies the claims.
Since the reports came out about Harvey Weinstein and other luminaries engaging in sexual harassment and misconduct two years ago, a flood of accusations threatens employers in numerous industries. More than 80 percent of female workers experience some form of verbal sexual harassment at their workplaces. This contributes to a hostile work environment at many businesses and decreases productivity, which will damage the business as well as harm the employees who face the toxic behavior.
