Supreme Court Rules LGBTQ Workers Protected Under Existing Law

June 15th, 2020

The morning of June 15, 2020 was monumental for the LGBTQ community and an example of continued progression for our nation. The new Supreme Court ruling states that, due to existing federal laws, it is illegal for employers to discriminate a person on behalf of sex and sexual orientation. This is a victory for advocates of gay rights and a surprising decision from a conservative Supreme Court. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 makes it illegal to discriminate on many things including sexual orientation. Sexual orientation discrimination is a form of sex discrimination and is punishable by law. This Supreme Court ruling comes at a perfect time as June is National Pride Month and a time to celebrate the continual strides that our country is making for LGBTQ rights.

The LGBTQ community has faced many challenges including the right to marriage and employment discrimination. Sidney L. Gold & Associates supports the LGBTQ community and fights for their rights to protection in and out of the workplace. Sexual orientation discrimination involves treating an employee differently based on their sexual orientation, whether the employee is heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. If your employer treats you differently because of your sexual orientation, they may be violating the law and going against the new Supreme Court ruling.

For over 40 years our firm has been in the forefront in fighting to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community. If you have experienced discrimination in the workplace due to your sexual orientation, contact the Pennsylvania employment lawyers at Sidney L. Gold & Associates, P.C. for a free case consultation.
