Supreme Court Rules LGBTQ Workers Protected Under Existing Law

The morning of June 15, 2020 was monumental for the LGBTQ community and an example of continued progression for our nation. The new Supreme Court ruling states that, due to existing federal laws, it is illegal for employers to discriminate a person on behalf of sex and sexual orientation. This is a victory for advocates of gay rights and a surprising decision from a conservative Supreme Court. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 makes it illegal to discriminate on many things including sexual orientation. Sexual orientation discrimination is a form of sex discrimination and is punishable by law. This Supreme Court ruling comes at a perfect time as June is National Pride Month and a time to celebrate the continual strides that our country is making for LGBTQ rights.
