In the ongoing effort by the #MeToo movement and many others to unveil decades of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, John Lasseter, the former head of Pixar and Disney Animation, was fired after allegations of unwanted touching and more. However, despite the allegations of unacceptable behavior, Lasseter has been hired by Skydance Animation.
It was reported that the head of Skydance Media reached out to Time’s Up, a sexual harassment advocacy group, prior to the hiring. However, Time’s Up did not endorse the hire because they believed Lasseter had not exhibited a significant amount of reflection or transparency in the investigation that was conducted into the accusations.
According to at least one report, Lasseter was known for grabbing, kissing, hugging, and making comments about physical attributes. Although he apologized in a memo that announced his leave of absence from Disney, Time’s Up was not satisfied. They stated that Skydance Media is providing another position of power, prominence, and privilege to a man who has repeatedly been accused of sexual harassment in the workplace.
